He was a rock upon which I could build my life.

This Jesus, this book, this church — for Lobdell, they all worked. Give up all material possessions? Millions of Christians will recognize that ambivalence about converting, an ambivalence that can shade into terror.

Time slowed.

Lobdell never denies the power of his original conversion experience, and he never ceases to be grateful to the loving evangelicals who turned his life around. But after seven years at Mariners, he begins to find the self-help pieties simplistic and anti-intellectual.

He leaves for a Presbyterian Church, and from there moves toward Roman Catholicism — fatefully, as it turns out, because his studies for conversion to Catholicism begin just as American Catholics are about to be confronted with the most heartbreaking news they have ever had to face.

Many were direct perpetrators, many more were cowardly and silent. An unexpected meeting with Alex, an unpredictable crazy American hippie, changes his life forever as he decides to quit everything and join him on an unplanned uncharted journey across India. From getting irrepressibly high in the mysterious Malana valley in the Himalayas to starting a shack on the bewitching Om beach on the west coast, they do it all.

Generous blurbs are the first-rate promotion for any book, but they have been grossly misused in recent times. And as a result, I have become a bit wary of them. This book has entrepreneurship, romance, friendship, success, failure.

I could hardly remember any day in last years when I did not login to my laptop. The author uses language skilfully, and this is what keeps the story running smoothly and alive in the mind much after it has been devoured cover to cover.

Sort order. Kyra is amazing and her identity and its unfolding will leave you stumped.
